Starlight Kids Dance the Monster Mash on the Sydney Harbour Bridge for Halloween
On Friday 28 October, three Halloween Monsters led seven face-painted children from the Starlight Children's Foundation (Starlight), in a unique rendition of The Monster Mash, after they trick-or-treated their way to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The Halloween celebrations saw the children and their families enjoy some spooky ghost and ghoul stories, integrated into regular BridgeClimb commentary.
Once at the summit 134 metres above the harbour, they pulled monster faces together and answered multiple choice BridgeClimb trivia.
The children won a treat; Halloween lollies, for correct answers or were told some ‘Dad jokes’ for wrong answers by Climb Leaders, as a trick.
The seven children, aged 9 to 13, from four Starlight families, came in from across Sydney.
Brendan, 11 years old from Merrylands said, “Climbing the Bridge today was amazing it was something I will never forget and the view was beautiful. You don’t get to do this every day, I’m so proud”
Thomas, 13 years old from Granville said, “The BridgeClimb was fun because we did dancing and we climbed and we got told about the history of the Bridge.”
The climax of the event saw three colourful monsters lead a sky-high performance of the Halloween favourite, The Monster Mash, with the families quickly picking up the simple moves and adding in their own character to the fun dance steps.
The magical journey saw the summit of the Bridge transformed into a spooky dance floor complete with pumpkin lanterns and music playing from the concert style speakers and highlighted that any day can be special.
Captain Starlight joined in the fun and dancing and ensured the extraordinary Climb group received the most from the experience as they took in the spectacular 360 degree views of Sydney Harbour.
