FAQs
CLIMBER SAFETY
Children from the age of 8 to 15 (inclusive) are able to join their parent/s or guardian/s on a Climb, provided they are 1.2 metres in height or taller. Children are the responsibility of an adult, with a maximum of three children allowed under the supervision of one adult climber. Parents/guardians must remain with their children throughout the Climb experience, and must assist the BridgeClimb team by managing their equipment preparation and behaviour.
When considering whether this activity will be right for your child, we would like you to consider the following:
- We will equip younger children in smaller Climb Suits, harness belts, and other accessories as required
- Children must have a general level of fitness and the ability to climb steep ladders (if on the Summit Climb Route) and stairs independently
The facts and stories our Climb Leaders share during the experience are appropriate for a broad age range.
There is no age limit to Climb the Bridge, we have welcomed many Climbers across a broad age range. Our oldest climber, Mrs Chris Muller, reached the Summit at 100 years old! Anyone with a general level of health & fitness who is able to participate in moderate physical activity can enjoy the BridgeClimb!
If you’re 75 years of age, or over, you can climb with a Certificate of Fitness signed by your GP. Please, download this form from our website and bring it with you on the day.
If you are a Seniors Card member you can also receive 15% off any standard BridgeClimb experience (excludes special offer climbs). Find out more.
If you have any queries or concerns about whether you will be able to complete the climb, please reach out to our team who will be happy to discuss in more detail, and accommodate any personal requirements you may have.
In most cases, yes. We have helped thousands of people challenge their fear of heights by climbing to the top of the Bridge. Head over to our Face Your Fear page for more information about how you can prepare for the challenge ahead. If you have any queries or concerns, you can complete the enquiry form on the page or contact us directly to discuss in more detail how we can support you during the experience.
If you are less than 24 weeks pregnant, you can participate with a signed Certificate of Fitness from your GP. If you are over 24 weeks pregnant unfortunately you are unable to climb at this time.
To participate you need to have a general level of health and fitness, and the ability to climb stairs, and ladders (if on the Summit Climb route), independently. BridgeClimb asks Climbers to carefully consider their own health and fitness levels, and not to climb if their participation poses any risk to their health and safety, that of other Climbers, or any other users of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The following conditions may impact a Climber's ability to take part in a Climb and therefore require consideration and disclosure to our team prior to climbing:
- Limb absence or limb difference
- Diabetes
- Heart conditions (including high or low blood pressure)
- Vertigo, dizziness or loss of balance
- All respiratory conditions
- Surgery, from which you’re still recovering
- Injuries or conditions impacting stair or ladder climbing ability
- Epilepsy
- Chronic illness
HEALTH & SAFETY EXCEPTIONS
We do our best to help everyone climb, after all, we want everyone to take part in this amazing experience, however there are some things that will prevent you from participating, including:
- A fit or seizure in the last six months
- Broken bones
- If you are more than 24 weeks pregnant
- You’re under 8 years of age

Alternatively you may wish to leave them safely in our free storage lockers to prevent damage or loss while out on the Bridge. Please advise our team prior to your climb if you require support so we can ensure all safety requirements are met.

At BridgeClimb, we're all about making your Climb unforgettable, no matter what the weather throws our way! BridgeClimb is a safe experience in most weather conditions and we will equip you with all the gear you'll need to keep you safe and comfortable throughout your experience.
If it looks like there's a chance of rain during your Climb, we recommend bringing a change of shoes and socks to keep you dry afterwards. And fear not, Summit Squad, the rain won’t dampen your spirits – it adds a unique thrill to the experience! However, we understand that climbing in the rain isn't for everyone, and all of our guests have varying comfort levels when it comes to the conditions. If you prefer to stay dry, you can reschedule your Climb in advance, for a small fee, see our Flexible Booking Policy for more details, and contact us at [email protected] or +61 2 8274 7777 as soon as possible to update your booking.
Even though we love a rain dance on the arches, we will postpone or cancel Climbs during electrical storms. Our team will notify you as early as possible if your Climb needs to be rescheduled. Climbs that are cancelled on the day will be offered a credit to climb again at a time that is suitable or a refund. Climbers will receive an email or SMS to the booking contact in the case of a weather event impacting your climb, so please keep an eye out, or if you are concerned, you are welcome to get in touch with us at [email protected] or +61 2 8274 7777.
We may postpone or cancel Climbs during times of extreme heat, in the interest of your safety. Our team will notify you as early as possible if your Climb needs to be rescheduled. If you're climbing during Summer when temperatures can get a little high, you might get a visit from our Safety Crew and their handy water misters to cool you down while out on the Bridge! The team will also be on hand to offer a refreshing cold towel on your return to base. We of course also provide all Climbers throughout the year with a BridgeClimb cap to wear on the Bridge and offer sunscreen to apply during your preparation time - it's not a day out in the Aussie sun unless you slip, slop, slap!
Ultimately, we're all about keeping you safe and getting you out on the Bridge feeling confident to have the best experience possible! If you're concerned at all about the weather conditions or want to discuss in more detail just reach out to our team who will be happy to clarify any queries.
PREPARING FOR YOUR CLIMB
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing (eg. sports or activewear) that is weather appropriate. All Climbers must wear our specially made protective Climb Suit, and depending on the day's forecast, our team will advise you during the preparation and safety briefing whether you need to wear your clothing layers under your Climb suit for extra comfort, particularly during cold weather. We’ll equip you with everything else you need for your Climb, based on the day's conditions.
Please wear comfortable, enclosed rubber-soled shoes such as running, sport or hiking shoes. PVC and leather-soled shoes are not ideal.
No, unfortunately not. Climbers cannot take loose objects, including cameras, phones or GoPros, due to government security requirements for the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We provide secure lockers for you to keep your personal belongings in during your Climb. Our Climb Leaders are trained with premium photography equipment to make sure they capture this special memory for you. If you haven't pre-purchased your photo package when booking online, you can buy your photos after your Climb. You can find out more about our photo packages here.
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own glasses or sunglasses to wear on the day of your Climb, these will be safely attached to your Climb suit. Smart-glasses or other wearables with recording devices are not permitted on the climb due to Sydney Harbour Bridge security guidelines.
Essential medication, like inhalers or diabetic medication, can be taken on the Climb by your Climb Leader. Please ensure you advise our team of this when you check-in so we can prepare it during the safety preparation time before storing away your personal items.
Due to Sydney Harbour Bridge security and safety, Climbers are not permitted to take any personal items with them on the climb, other than glasses or sunglasses, which will be safely attached to your Climb suit.
Rings or small earrings are able to be left on, however you will need to store any other jewellery or accessories such as watches, bracelets, fitness devices (eg. FitBit), in one of our free lockers.
If you have long hair that is tied up, this can be done with a soft elastic hair band only, no clips, bobby pins, or scrunchies. If in doubt, ask a member of our team on the day.
We provide free secure lockers for you to keep all of your personal belongings in, including phones and cameras, during your Climb. The key to your locker will be securely attached to you at all times.
All Climbers must wear our specially made protective Climb Suit. You will be provided with a hat that is safely attached to your suit, and other accessories such as a beanie, gloves and rain jacket will be provided for extra warmth if you're climbing during winter.
You must have a blood-alcohol reading below 0.05 to Climb (the same as if you are driving). All Climbers will be breathalysed during the safety briefing prior to preparing for the climb. To ensure you are eligible to climb on the day, keep your celebration drinks for after your Climb. It will be worth it! Our team may observe Climbers to ensure they are not under the influence of drugs (legal or illegal), and Climbers will be refused participation in a Climb, if their blood alcohol concentration is 0.05% or greater.
