BridgeClimb Celebrates Chinese New Year with a Lantern Festival at Great Heights

On Friday, 1 February 2019, BridgeClimb Sydney invited its Mandarin-speaking Climb Leaders and translators with their families and friends to celebrate Chinese New Year atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The climb was one of many Mandarin Bridgeclimb experiences to take place throughout City of Sydney’s Lunar Festival from 1 – 10 February.

Climbers ascended the iconic arches and were greeted with an enchanting lantern festival at the summit. Symbolising happiness and good fortune, the red Chinese lanterns adorned the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, while the arch below was illuminated pink and red in celebration of the Year of the Pig.

Climbers also enjoyed a surprise performance by Chinese singer and finalist in popular singing competition Sing! China, Gina Jiang, who serenaded guests with two songs: Wang Leehom’s Da Cheng Xiao Ai (大城小爱) and Luo Ye Gui Gen (落叶归根). A Sydney-sider, Gina Jiang dedicated her performance to her family back home in Chongqing, China.

The evening came to a crescendo with a sparkling fireworks display across the harbour, signifying the beginning of the Lunar Festival, and kicking off the Chinese New Year festivities in Sydney. It was truly a memorable moment for the BridgeClimb staff and their loved ones.

Throughout the festival period, BridgeClimb is increasing daily departures of the BridgeClimb Mandarin experience, with special surprises along the way. Guided by an enthusiastic Mandarin-speaking Climb Leader, guests will learn about Sydney’s special connection to China and hear many inspiring stories to complement the stunning views.
